Application Procedure
1. Application Schedule
Degree programs: March 1st to June 1st every year
Non-degree programs:
Spring semester: March 1st to June 15th
Autumn semester: September 1st to December 15th
2. Way of application
Apply in the Online Application System of International Office of Exchange and Cooperation, Sichuan Agricultural University. Submit all the documents in the Online System, then deliver the hard copy of the application form and other required materials to International Student Office by mail (mail address is enclosed in the item Contact Information).
3. Qualification of Applicants
1) The qualified applicant in principle should be over 18 and under 60 years old with good physical and mental health and qualified school performance.

2) Requirement of language proficiency:
(a) For programs offered in Chinese: applicants for the programs of humanities, social sciences, art, management, journalism and law should pass Chinese Proficiency Test (HSK) band 5 or above, and those for science and engineering programs should pass Chinese Proficiency Test (HSK) band 4 or above.
(b) For programs offered in English: Applicants should pass TOEFL 80 or IFLTS 6.5.
(c) For Doctoral Program applicants: if the English proficiency is sufficient, the Chinese language requirement could be adjusted for some majors.
(d) General Visiting Students are allowed to take specialty courses when they pass Chinese Proficiency Test (HSK) band 5 and above, otherwise they are advised to study Chinese in the Chinese Language Training Center for one or two semesters.
(e) Senior Visiting Students and Research Scholars are not required to take the Chinese language proficiency exam, on the premise that the candidate experiences no obstacles in communicating with their supervisor.
(f) Applicants of Chinese-taught programs without adequate Chinese language proficiency must take Chinese language training courses in the Chinese Language Training Center at SAU for one to two years to reach the language requirements before major studies.
4. Application documents
Generally, applicants must fill in and provide the following documents truly, correctly and completely.
1) Application Form for International Students at SAU (downloaded in the Online System)
2) A photocopy of the valid passport (pages with photo, including the valid visa page and residence permit page if you are already in China)
3) Diploma/Degree certificate. (Those who have not graduated yet shall offer Pre-graduation Certificate and academic transcript.) Undergraduate program applicants need to submit notarized photocopies of senior high school certificate and junior high school certificate. Master program applicants need to submit bachelor degree certificate. Doctoral program applicants need to submit both master and bachelor degree certificates.
(4) Academic transcript. Undergraduate program applicants need to submit notarized photocopies of senior high academic transcript. Master program applicants need to submit academic transcript of undergraduate study. Doctoral program applicants need to submit academic transcripts of both graduate and undergraduate studies.
5) Personal Resume/CV (Doctoral program applicants also need to submit brief introduction of research experience)
6) A study plan or research proposal (Not necessary for Chinese Language program and short-term programs)
7) Chinese Language Proficiency Certificate (HSK) and score report (unless a waiver is approved). Original version is required in the process of registration.
8) Two academic recommendation letters in Chinese or English from scholars of associate professorship or higher (referee’s phone number and email address on the letter)
9) Acceptance Letter from host-supervisor (Only for graduate programs, senior visiting student programs and research scholar programs)
10) English Language Proficiency certificate for applicants of English-taught programs (IELTS, IBT)
11) Other auxiliary supporting materials including sports, arts and other relevant awards and certificates to show your talent.
★Notes:
1) In addition to the above application materials, the university may require applicant to provide supplementary materials, depending on the circumstances.
2) For applicants under the age of 18 on Registration Day, a notarization of guarantors in China is required. The guardian of the student has to be living in Sichuan at present. Whatever the guardian's nationality is, he or she must have a source of income.
3) For applicants who will be graduating from senior high school (University) in July should provide the Pre-graduation Certificate.
4) For applicants who are studying in a university, additional materials are required, such as academic transcripts, Studying Certificate and recommendation from the university.
5) Documents in languages other than Chinese or English must be attached with notarized translations in Chinese or English.
6) Recommendation letters should be submitted in original copy and necessary for graduate programs, senior visiting student programs and research scholar programs.
7) The above documents should be bound on top left corner (in duplicate) in order. No application documents will be returned. The application is invalid if the application materials are incomplete.
5. Admission Notice
Admission Notice and Visa Application Form for Study in China (JW202) will be issued to the admitted applicants in early July according to the instruction of the pre-admission notice.
6. Visa Application and Registration
Successful applicants should bring their personal and ordinary passport, Admission Notice, Visa Application Form (JW202), and original Form of Physical Examination Record for Foreigners as well as other original documents of physical examination to the Embassy or Consulate of the People's Republic of China, and apply for student visa. Students shall come to International Students Office, Sichuan Agricultural University for registration during the dates indicated on the Admission Notice with the aforementioned documents.
A study period of 6 months and above requires an ordinary passport and X1 visa. Accepted applicants need to exchange their X1 visas to a Residence Permit at the local Exit and Entry Administration of Public Security Bureau, within 30 days of arrival in China. If your period of study is less than half a year, you may apply for an X2 visa.
